According to the notarial document of the well-known notary Sr. Don ALFONSO ZAPATA ZAPATA, the origins of Betancourt go back to ancient Normandy; settlement of Gauls and Vikings which had a great knowledge in navigation and fishing. The family name Betancourt is derived from Jean de Betheencourt, colonizer of the Canary Islands in the 15th century (between 1402 and 1405), native of Normandy (1360-1422). The roots of the name Moreno go back to the surname Murano which has its origins in the first settlements of jewish merchants in Venice in 1291.
